Right I am off to football, be back this evening...
Sounds like a good idea. Some will inevitably make a point of defending the immigrants from being forced to do ANYTHING, say it infringes on their human rights. A scheme such as this is clearly good for the reputation of all immigrants though, and a just payment for the right to reap the rewards of our economy and culture.

Don't see the point. It will not make them any more or less integrated. He was on the right track when he mentioned that it would be useful to learn English, but this is just a tangent.

it depends. as long as it's not severe, like manual labor or something. i guess there's merit to the idea, but only if it's well thought out.

An intersting idea, but some may say this is discrimination (the community work I mean) because it is not demanded of those who are already citizens. I think it could be a good idea because it might ease the immigrants' introduction to the lives and needs of people with whom they will live; immigrants often keep only to their own ethnic group--this may make their transition easier, maybe even enjoyable. As for learning English--I believe this should be made law.

as long as it is not just 24 hours.
