It is at least for my daughter. The whole time she was in High School, it's been a constant battle over her wanting to pierce something on her face, like her Lip, nose or eyebrow. I compromised with her and told her that instead, she could have as many ear piercings as she wanted. So she had about 15 piercings in her ears at one point. Bars, gauges, hoops, posts, etc. The last six months or so, she's quit wearing as many earrings, now she's down to only about seven at a time.042

Its a fad just as tattooing is.
Even though it may never go away like tattooing didn't it had it's time. The next generation will attribute it to the old and uncool just as every other fad from previous generations. Then, of course, in the future there will be a revisiting of the fad of some sort.

Voted : No, I have only earrings
..and tatoos.

Like tatoos, some piercings have become more mainstream from what I've seen. But the number of new piercings I think are dying off a good bit.

Tattoos and piercings are SO over but everyone and their mom seem to still be getting them. I'm such a non-comformist I'll never get one just because these days it's odd not to have a tattoo or piercing somewhere.

It just looks cool with tribal tattoos, a goatee and a Nirvana album.
