If the friend is actually a friend, he/she will understand that my personal priorities place a greater emphasis on saving lives. If the person in question truly is *perfect*, she would understand as well.

I would take the old lady to a hospital. The world is full of soul mates, and if I let someone die so I could have a relationship, I'd be a real "piece of work". The horrible feeling I would have knowing I let someone die just to get to know this other person would eventually make me HATE this person. The old friend who once saved my life? He'll still be an old friend, but even older, the next time we meet, and the nice thing he did by saving my life will still be there.
