Everybody who's used something like Myspace or Friendster has seen them, fake profiles created with the purpose of luring you into an online matching/dating site. These fake profiles invariably have somebody who is stunningly attractive. They say that they like your profile on Myspace or whatever and tell you to meet them on this matching site, then when you get there and register to chat with them they don't respond. (it's because they're FAKE, dummy!)

Yes, it's just the way they advertise.
No, I cannot trust a dating site that uses fake profiles to advertise.

COMMENTS:
People who make fake profiles to "promote" their dating sites are dumber than the people who fall for them. Don't they know that they're hurting their site much more than they're helping it? I'm glad in a way that I'm coming across them so much because I know which ones to avoid if I ever decided to use a dating site.

To be clear, I don't mean the advertisements they display on websites. I mean the profiles which are created on the very sites that are at first glance indistinguishable from actual profiles
