PLEASE FORGIVE ME FOR THIS INSENSITIVE, POLITICALLY INCORRECT BALLOT

because of innocent children hurt or killed by dangerous toys.

It used to be that parents could buy toys that posed physical and chemical hazards for their children. Most children managed to play with these toys and remain unharmed. Was it just luck that they managed not to hurt themselves, or was it greater care and awareness?

Do you think perhaps that making today's toys mostly safe and mostly kid proof has removed a natural screening process that snared those children with lower awareness? While these new toys may remove many dangers to children, do you think they may also be admitting to the gene pool children of lower awareness or carefulness that were naturally screened out before.

I am NOT referring to accidents that occurred because of defects in toys, which caused harm to children even though they were cautious.

I know this will probably offend people, and with good reason. I was quite hesitant about posting this ballot, because of the negative responses and the resentment I am sure I will receive. Although I would never propose making dangerous toys again, ever, this is a serious question I have asked myself from time to time.

Safer toys do NOT protect children of lesser awarness
Safer toys DO protect children of lesser awarness
The gene pool would NOT be affected by this

We didn't have "safe toys" when I was a kid. We played with liquid Mercury and nobody was worried about that!

So... If I understand your ballot premise correctly... not having toys made as safe as possible removes a passive eugenics program that it appears you favor? Is it better then in your opinion that some kids die or become injured for life because this will then eliminate them from the gene pool?

^FiddleFaddleOnLSD,
No! Remember in my ballot, I said that in no way would I ever propose making dangerous toys again? This was just a question I had--could the removing of unsafe toys have any effect on the gene pool? I treasure all children, and I respect this industry for trying to keep all children safe.

But I did say my ballot would engender resentment—and I got it!

I don't think making safer toys keeps anyone from being weeded out of the gene pool. Where there's a will, there's a way. There's lots more to choke on besides small parts and lots more to bump your head on than the kitchen floor.

I think it's an interesting question. That said, I doubt it would make a difference in the gene pool. If they still made dangerous toys, I think that most (but not all) of today's children would manage not to hurt themselves.

Hell, I think you're right on the money Honey. Let me see if I can effectively communicate this :

Grow up sheltered, Can't cope in life.
Grow up battered and abused, You can survive anything.

There. (though, I wouldn't go as far as to say, "perhaps baby's first toy should be a band aid tin full of needles and razor blades", It's necessary for adaptive consciousness, mental development and constructive reasoning, to encounter painful truamatic experiences, if the species is to survive).

PS. I still have 13 band aid boxes available for anyone who needs one. lol

Awww quit it I'm just kidding!

Good observation!

I hear all kinds of stories about my family members getting stuck by sharp objects, my grandpa once banged his fist on a table and a fork flew up and stuck into my uncles forhead when he was little because they used to be so sharp...and i hear stories about them choking on small toys and lead painted toys gave kids lead poisoning, just seems safer now.

I think we heard less about these stories back then because there wasn't as many people, now it seems more common because we have so many people.

Kick all the illegals out and we would have 11 million lessMAG_rofl

Probably not exactly, more than likely it's because of electronic and mass media technology. These days, one can obtain information about anything from the internet. It's just necessary to filter the truth from the fabulously fabled. ;D
