"MISTAKES WERE MADE." DOES THIS CONSITUTE AN APOLOGY?

"MISTAKES WERE MADE." DOES THIS CONSITUTE AN APOLOGY?

[+] serious ballot by mojo
created Wed Mar 14, 07

Last month our esteemed president said it. Yesterday, Alberto Gonzales, the Attorney General, said it.

Isn't there a wide world of difference between 'Mistakes were made,' and 'I'm sorry'?

It reminds me of when I get mad at my husband and he says, 'I'm sorry you are upset.'

No, it's a way of shirking responsibility.
Slip of the tongue.

Impeach Bush and Cheney.

The worst administration in American history and, apparently, the most morally corrupt.

I can't believe they said that.

What would happen if they took responsibility for all of their mistakes?

Oh, right.

Funny how the phrase "holding people accountable" bandied about so commonly as a rationalization disappears when you're talking about the Federal government. Or in the words of Judge Dredd: "I AM the law!"
