Rose admits to betting on his team every time they took the field.

"I bet on my team every night. I didn't bet on my team four nights a week. I was wrong," said Rose, who accepted a lifetime ban for gambling in 1989.

"I bet on my team to win every night because I love my team, I believe in my team," he added. "I did everything in my power every night to win that game."

It was a somewhat stunning admission given that Rose spent nearly 15 years denying he'd ever bet on baseball. Only in 2004 did Rose acknowledge in his most recent autobiography that he made baseball wagers while managing the Reds. If reinstated, the 65-year-old Rose said he would like to again manage in the majors.

The career hits leader also said he supported Barry Bonds and Mark McGwire, who fell far short in his first time on the Hall of Fame ballot.

"Don't penalize McGwire because you think other guys are taking steroids," Rose said.

Rose finished his career in 1986 with 4,256 lifetime hits. He was managing the Reds in 1989 when he agreed to a lifetime ban after an investigation of his gambling.

Should Rose's admission allow him to enter the Baseball Hall of Fame, Yes/No, why or why not?

No, he broke the golden rule of Baseball...
Yes, the man has suffered enough...
Here are my thoughts...

No. I don't think it's a good representation of the sport.

But I at least have to give him credit for always betting on his own team.

'Course he could confess to doing otherwise anyday now I guess...

All-time hits leader. As for representing the sport, I would prefer to consider his performance on the field rather than his mistakes off the field. Surround him with 30 million asterisks if need be, just put him in Cooperstown.

Let me say this straight out: I hate Pete Rose. I think he's a complete bastard. However, enough's enough. If Ty Cobb can be in the Hall of Fame then surely a pumped up, jerk-off like Rose shouldn't be excluded.

At least he didn't bet against his team and try to make them lose lol.

I agree, the man has been punished enough...

Pete Rose should be given credit for his accomplishments on the field and now that he has admitted what we all knew from the begining, send him off to cooperstown, enough already...

(let he who is without sin cast the first stone)... PLAY BALL!!! 025
