I've always been interested in renewables, mainly because they have that kind of "free energy" aura around them. (even though practically they're usually pretty expensive)

The one thought I've always had was using the heat change from night-day, {0} to drive a fluid through a turbine to generate electric.
I was thinking of something complex {1}, and wondering why no-one had made anything on these lines.
Then I saw this: " en. wikipedia .org/ wiki/ Solar_ updraft _tower " (URL without the spaces)
. So simple. It uses a kind of induced thermal updraught to generate power, and they're already using a prototype in Spain!

Another nice one is direct photosynthesis {2} of hydrogen from water through either organic or inorganic methods would be great {3} : - humans using power would become part of the water-cycle like trees.

I also like the whole tidal power thing {4} as it's less vulnerable to external factors, more difficult in an ice-age, but still possible unless all the water's frozen or evaporated... or someone blows up the moon!

{0} - (esp. in dune-less deserts where the change is often greatest and the shifting sands won't bury your power plant)

{1} - that generated energy by losing all of it's heat at night and more again by collecting heat in the day.

{2} - I think that's the wrong term as I don't think you can chemically synthesise elements. Someone correct me...

{3} - so long as some genetically- engineered algae doesn't run wild eating all our water any letting off hydrogen farts that might hang out of reach in the upper atmosphere stopping it oxidising back to water.

Solar Updraft Tower
Wind Power
Tidal Power
Wave Power
Solar Electric cells (photovoltaic)
Hydrogen Photosynthesis
Hydro-Electric (i.e. river damming)

Voted : Solar Electric cells (photovoltaic)
How can we get some power out of this "global warming" we've been hearing so much about lately?

Voted : Solar Electric cells (photovoltaic)
Probably solar.

I like the idea of using hydro/electric dams as hydrogen generating facilities. I don't understand how any other way (ie. from natural gas, electricity for coal fire plants) would be considered "green".

It's all BS, we should keep burning stuff up for our power.

(I'm just trying to *represent* for a few boys who've given up here lately :)
