If he's got a racing spirit, you won't have to buy him anything, win or lose. He races because he loves racing.
Don't buy him the board because he wins, buy him the board because you love him.
If the board is a reward for winning, when he doesn't win at something and doesn't get the reward, it will adversely affect his self esteem.

having been a wild one myself, I thought nothing of thrashing on my bike when I was a kid. I feel every fall and every bruise years later, the damages can be unseen at an earlier age but can really affect them when they hit middle age.
