IS THE MOVIE "300" A KIND OF MODERN "TRIUMPH OF THE WILL?"

I confess, I haven't seen either film all the way through. But hearing some discussions about "300" makes me think that it has been seized on by neocon types, who fantasize about themselves as the Spartan defenders of Western Civilization, totally pumped, their pecs glistening with grease, outnumbered, but bravely marching into battle against the massive hordes of Persians, all of whom are, apparently, disgusting perverts. The fantasy analogy between the U.S. (at least the neocon fantasy of a militaristic, fascistic Judeo-Christian U.S.) and the Islamic world (inferior primitives) is easy to make.

What do you think? Is the movie "300," intentionally or not, a call to create a militarized, war-like, rightwing United States that will engage in a glorious Armageddon-like struggle with the evil Islamic world, and similar to the legendary propaganda film, Triumph of the Will?

I dont know, I'll have to see the flick first and wait for more reactions.
One thing's for sure though, it has pissed off Ahmadinejad. He appeared on the Iranian television claiming that the movie was an attempt to denigrate the Persian history.

No, i think that's an overexaggeration, it's based on a book that's based on Neil Gaiman's own imagination, based on a real battle that took place. I think the Spartans were very brave; however, the Iranians are hollowing at this film

I saw "300" and see it as an inspirational movie encouraging us to the view that numbers alone do not determine victory. It's Hollywood's version of a real Greek battle. It's entertaining -- and not, in my view, intended as political comment. But when has that stopped anyone from twisting reality to serve their purposes?
