WHAT IS GOING ON WITH IRAN?

WHAT IS GOING ON WITH IRAN?

They refuse in all areas to compromise with demands from the west. While I admire their defiant stance I must take objection to the capture of british troops. I know one side says one thing and vice versa but making a british subject appear in a hajib and claim that we were at fault is clearly pushing the bounderies of what is tolerable and what isn't.

However, the point of this ballot is, why is there no reaction from the west? Apart from mumbled garbage on a par with football manager rhetoric we get nothing.

Why is this?

Not enough troops to spare
Iran is too closely linked to Saudi Arabia
Too far from Israel to matter
Not an American problem
They have no oil
we're too busy liberating iraq
The U.K. won't but should commence bombing

Not that I agree LCB but why wont they? I cant see how bombing innocent civilians will help like. Certainly like iraq it will just reinforce the religious to hate the west. and with good cause. You cant kill innocent people because of a few madmen.

Well let's see Iran illegally kidnaps British sailors so what to do what to do. I know, threaten the Iranian leader that if the sailors are not released Iran will no longer have a navy or any sea ports. If he doesn't comply let the bombing commence.

Where's the outcry being that the female sailor has been coerced into complying with Islam as she is being forced to wear a veil. What if we were to force all enemy combatant to wear a cross around their neck?
by lowerclassbrats on Thu Mar 29, 07 7:28pm [+]

Ah but the thing is they probably will be released. The outcry is there. perhaps not in america but here in britain its an outrage.

But

Turning it around isn't a fair point. Religion in the west isn't the same thing. They firmly believe that they have the moral high ground in this as do you when you condone bombing them. putting a cross aroun their necks would outrage the christian majority. So thats why we dont. Just because they believe differently doesn't make us right.
by quirk99 on Thu Mar 29, 07 7:44pm [+]

Religion dictates certain fundamental points. Unless you believe in god your going to hell. Complying with islam is right for them. It's a base insult aimed straight at us. But we think unless they believe in our god then they are wrong. It's all the same. we dont need to make an example of them its already there in our intolerence of islam. and conversely their intolerence of us. this is more about religion than ethics. I still think bombing them is a knee jerk reaction.

Voted : we're too busy liberating iraq
It's really a shame. The hajib is the small issue, the fact that hostages were taken is the big issue. I hope they are released soon.

What actually surprises me is that some of you think bombing Iran would solve anything. What good did that to Israel when hezbollah captured 2 of its soldiers? But this is probably not even the case. It isnt clear yet that IRan did something illegal (apart from showing them on the news, which is something the coalition forces also do in Iraq and Afghanistan).
Ahmadinejad is using them as propaganda props for his regime but so far i dont see that ther are being treated unhumanly as some people claim.
This could even be one of those cases where both parties are wrong. That's probably why no one wants to declare unconditional support to any of the countries involved.
by seamus on Fri Mar 30, 07 2:41am [+]

^And i'm pretty sure they'll be released soon.

The Iranians are crafty. They kidnapped British sailors, not Americans. They knew that, by itself, Britain didn't have the firepower to wage a successful war, unilaterally. They also knew that Bush & Cheney care absolutely nothing about Britain, as proven by their behavior in the last several years toward poodle Blair. The relationship has been all one way, from Britain to the U.S. Note the subdued response of the U.S. over this.

If Iran had seized Americans, they gave Bush, Cheney, and AIPAC an excuse to order the big invasion that's coming. You could also argue, however, that Iran played the U.S. well, because Bush & Cheney are in a watershed struggle with Congress over Iraq, and this may be a terrible time for the U.S. to invade. And, that this isn't a big enough "Pearl Harbor" type event. That will probably come later.

They are just a bunch of dicks like that.
by _Beelzebubba on Fri Mar 30, 07 9:39am [+]

Here's the thing with Iran: Do you realize that these Iranians, consisting of about 170 million souls, has the temerity, the utter gall and arrogance to imagine that they can decide for themselves whether or not they may enrich uranium and construct a nuclear weapon. The incredible hubris! What gives these people the idea that they can do precisely what at least eight other sovereign nations have done. Imagine! And then they refuse to be polite about it. My God! What on earth are they thinking? Damned Persians, anyhow.
by margaret123 on Fri Mar 30, 07 3:10pm [+]

And here's the punchline:

Iran is a signator of the nuclear non-proliferation treaty. Some countries that did not sign this treaty are Pakistan, and Israel and the U.S.A., what? Israel and the U.S. did not sign? What's your point Robo? We're responsible...we make the right decisions for the right reasons...and so on...
