COMMENTS:
Yeah, let's give the southwest back to Mexico if they agree to give it back to Spain, and then Spain has to give it back to the Indians.
The whole idea is absurd.

I know that it would not work.
I heard someone on the radio that suggested that idea to keep the peace with Mexico.
I half-laughed about it and thought I would put it here.
So far the poll is what I am expecting.
We can't give away land for peace.

They'll just turn any land you give them into the same kind of sewer that Mexico is now.

That's equivelent to paying a car thief not to steal cars. The law is the law, whether domestic or international, you don't pay criminals not to commit crimes. Mexico is expected to honor international law or face the consequences.

^I dont think your thief analogy is suitable here passiveson.
Mexico is the only country that the United States has invaded and annexed half its territory. Mexicans do not forget these events. Quite understandably (just think of the toponomy), they feel that they have special rights in these territories.

so then, shouldn't the Great-big, very expensive Fence be built on the Utah and Colorado State Borders? Let's give 'em Oregon too..just to be sure.

Seamus, The border is clearly defined and reconized. It was establish when New Mexico and Arizona were adopted into Statehood in 1912.

So redefining the border to give Mexico US land in exchange for their cooperation is precisely accurate with the thief analogy.

Wait. This city is owned by a different foreign country.

Law cannot severe the bounds one has with history and "land". And i'm not saying you need/should to give it back nor do i think the mexicans ever asked you that (correct me if i'm wrong). Seems to me it's more favourable to them to maintain those territories american...for now.
