COMMENTS:
I always thought it was the Middle East, but some people consider it to be part of Europe.

The northwestern tip of Turkey is directly south of Bulgaria, but eastern Turkey is directly north of Syria and Iraq. I'm not so sure myself come to think of it.

Neither. Turkey is a unique country both politically and culturally. Turks are independent, tough, and honest. I love the Turks -- although they definitely have a downside. Ask any Armenian or Kurd.

Voted : Middle East
Always considered it more Middle Eastern, owing to the slightly more Eastern orientation. Okay, I'm being pedantic today. Old folks get that option...

Geologically speaking Europe isn't its own continent.

I consider Turkey to be the Middle East, considering the Ottoman Empire, the religion of the country, and the culture.

Depends on how you look at it. It is, arguably, the birthplace of Christian Orthodoxy; but, no longer Christian itself. Deep roots enculturated into it's people. Definitely a transitional state. What margaret123 said is correlates closely with my own perception of the Turks, and Turkey. It is also home to (again, arguably) the world's oldest now inhabited city. To answer the question: It has been both at various times in history. This is due, in large, to the fact, as Noblese_Oblige has correctly stated, that "Geologically speaking, Europe isn't it's own continent," so the answer CAN change, and still be correct.

^I would amend one sentence to read, "...a transitional state that, to most, has completed it's transition;... but, what margaret123..."

^now, bs and fluff aside, I'll put it more succinctly and honestly: I don't know! Ask a Turk!
