DID POPE PAUL VI REALLY OWN 51% OF GENERAL MOTORS?

[+] ballot by nuckinfutz

In the song "Awaiting On You All" from the 1970 album All Things Must Pass, George Harrison writes:

And while the Pope owns 51% of General Motors
And the stock exchange is the only thing he's qualified to quote us
The lord is awaiting on you all to awaken and see
By chanting the names of the lord and you'll be free

No, it's just a song.
Yes, Pope Paul VI really did own 51% of GM.
It's not about Pope Paul VI, it's a prediction about the future of catholicism.

I think most people know the answer to this question is obvious. I just found it an odd lyric that would make for interesting discussion.

You can't believe every line in a song (although I like the song).
I like it too.
I doubt it was meant literally, but it was surely a comment on the investments held by the Catholic church rather than the pope as a single human being. They have some pretty wild investments in some pretty unchristian areas but of course they don't publicise the facts.
