Many of your choices detail reasons why we can't leave Iraq suddenly. Other reasons include the safety of our troups (a precipitous withdrawal would invite attacks); Iran may sound break out into full-scal war (and we'll need troops in close proximity to fight them); it's about face in the Arab world, and finally, and probably most important, George Bush would lose the 30 percent of Americans who approve of him right now.
^"soon"
Voted : it would mean relinquishing their control of resources in the country
What? And leave behind all that oil for the Iraqis. NEVER!!!!
BLITZER: How does the United States get out of this situation? Is there a way ... TRUMP: You know how they get out? They get out. That's how they get out. Declare victory and leave, because I'll tell you, this country is just going to get further bogged down. They're in a civil war over there, Wolf. There's nothing that we're going to be able to do with a civil war. They are in a major civil war.

Sorry Yanks- you broke it, now you have to fix it. The US broke down the national infrastructures and such- and the US cannot leave until matters are stabilised and fixed. Americans, you can't just walk in and out of any country you please. This includes you Americans who always opposed the war from the beginning. Nonetheless, your nation now has a responsibility to Iraq whether you like it or not. I know that changing one's mind is an honoured American tradition, however, the fact of the matter is that there is so much that needs to be fixed in Iraq of which the US has the capability to help do so to certain extents if it gives the needed LONG-TERM commitment to the situation at hand. It will be difficult- yes. However, you made your bed, now you have to lie in it. Even Hillary Clinton recognises these obvious characteristics to this circumstance.

Because it would ruin American credibility worldwide for decades to come. "The Americans are willing to begin a war of attrition, but are unwilling to finish it."

I would hope that a gradual withdrawal of troops would force the Iraqi government to train more Iraqi troops instead of having us do everything for them and getting all the blame.
The U.S. wants to keep a military presence in the middle east. The govt. dont want Russia and China getting too much influence there. It wants to keep pressure on Iran. The oil companies want the oil and they influence everybody.
Voted : the US needs to babysit the on-going civil war to control or influence its outcome
it's ours now. We'll be there forever.
