SHOULD THE STATE TROOPER WHO DROVE THE NJ GOVERNOR IN THE CRASH BE FIRED?

[+] serious ballot by jappy

Gov. Jon S. Corzine has voluntarily paid a $46 fine for violating state law by not wearing a seat belt during the trip in which a car crash left him critically injured, his spokesman said Tuesday.

Corzine fractured his left thigh and broke 11 ribs, his breastbone and other bones in the April 12 accident. He was riding unbuckled in the front passenger seat when his SUV, driven by a state trooper at 91 mph, was clipped by a truck and slammed into a guard rail near Atlantic City.

The state trooper was not only driving well above the speed limit, at 91 mph, but also allowed a passenger in his vehicle to violate the law by riding in the vehicle without being buckled up.

Should the state trooper be fired? Was it his responsibility to make sure that everyone in the vehicle was buckled in? As a law enforcement officer who will pull over drivers for violating the seat belt law, what sort of precedent does this set? Or is it okay because the governor is paying a fine, does that make everything alright?

What do you think should happen in a situation like this?

The trooper in question should be fired
The trooper in question should be suspended but get his job back later
It was not the troopers responsibility, nothing should happen to him

Suspended for a LONG time and sent all the way through police school (or whatever they go through) from the bottom up.

Any of us would be in equally bad straits, had we failed to insure it.

another example of quirk being a jackass dipshit and blaming the USA for everything that is ill with the world, bravo, glad to know that Europe is so perfect, moron.

I guess he made one mistake to many that time. We all do, but 91 MPH is faster than I drive, and the guy was paid to do it right.
I'm very glad Corzine survived. He's good as a governor, even if he didn't wear his seatbelt.

Was the trooper on duty?

Surely Gov. Jon S. Corzine is old enough to make his own decisions and doesn't need babysitting by a The state trooper. It was his responibility to wear a seat belt, The trooper should be done for speeding or dangerous driving.

I would like to think I would have asked the Governor to belt up (as I ask anyone who rides in my car with me to do, or they are not going to be riding in my car) but I understand not insisting the Governor Belt up due to his position, but he should have at least asked him to...
