Voted : Yes, George W. Bush Should be on the List
He's the president of one of the most powerful nations in the world. His influence may not be positive, but saying that George Bush is less influential than nothings like Kate Moss and the Borat idiot... well, that's just stupid to be quite honest.
Voted : He Is Not On It Because He Has Lost all Credibility in the World
Nate, I see your point and it makes sense. But I gave it some thought too and I think that his influence is greatly diminished because of his personality and approach to leadership. Ultimately, I think the question is, is he such a pariah right now that people intentionally ignore and disregard his influence? I think so. All I know is I don't believe a word that comes out of his mouth.

He got beat out by Kate Moss and Borat! I love it.
I think that we are considering the question very differently. Nothing wrong with that though. I think you are more people oriented in your approach to answering this question. In my opinion, it doesn't matter what people think of him, because so long as he has his throne in the oval office, he calls the shots. This is a weakness of our system. This man is supposed to be a representative of the people, and yet despite the fact that maybe only 25% of the population still has his back, he still has the stamp and still has the button. I think that is what makes him influential, not the support of "his" people. In fact, I would likely put him in the top 10-20 on that list. One rank below Sanjaya I should think.
^I'll give you that...to some extent. The list is the 100 most influential people in the world and the USA is not the world. There's about something like 7 billion people in the world and if most of them think he has zero credibility and he does not influence them because they disregard him, that is a factor to consider. Influence and power are totally different in my opinion. I can have a great deal of power and force my influence on others, or, I can be less powerful, but much more respected and regarded and thus, be very influential.
Would you agree that he is one of (if not the absolute) most influential people on the daily happenings of North America and the Middle East? That's got to cover at least a billion of those people lol.
And so far as this poll is regarding the "whole world"... that's nonsense. How are people in Asia and Africa and Europe more influenced by: Clinton, Obama, O'Donnell, Moss, DiCaprio, Scorsese, Cohen, You-Tube guys, and probably 75 others on the list. I can see the queen being of some influence in Europe, but not S. America, N. America, Asia, Australia, blah blah blah. And let's not forget the penguins on Antarctica.
I don't know what to tell you Nate. I didn't create the list. Time did. Ask them. It's their list of "100 Most Influential People in the World." How come I'm not on it? If you travel around the world or know people who do, maybe they can shed some light on it for you. All I can say is to me, Bush has no influence on me...meaning I rarely believe anything he says and can't stand to even listen to him. So for me, he is not nearly as influential as say, Nancy Pelosi or Congress as a whole, etc. To answer your question: "How are people in Asia and Africa and Europe more influenced by: Clinton, Obama, O'Donnell, Moss, DiCaprio, Scorsese, Cohen, You-Tube guys, and probably 75 others on the list." Who are we to tell them who to be influenced by? We live in an age of instant communications. They know who those individuals are. You have to consdier that it may not mean influential directly on every single person...but means "influential" in that the likes of Clinton or Obama or the others on the list may have influence over others, who then in turn have influence over the regular folk. I guess you have to broaden your definition of what the way "in the world" is being used here. So...take it up with the people at Time.
He also got beat out by Justin Timberlake and Ugly Betty.

Holy balls. Where did these 110 votes come from? lolllll
Something can't be right here. On the main ballot page, it's showing that this ballot has 103 votes. I don't think so. Weird.
I really do think Time made a retarded list here. *sigh* And patch, you would definitely be on my top 100 list. So far as influence goes, I am also trying to consider more than just direct influence here. If Mr. Bush says "I want to send 1,000 more troops to *this* place" and troops are sent there, and maybe one of these troops can't drive and hits a building in his Hummer, and maybe someone in that building is hit by a piece of falling debris, then I consider that debris victim to be influence by George Bush. Every American is affected by the policy making of the president. It doesn't matter if they agree with it or not, or if they think he's a cocksucker or a saint.
Well Nathaniel, here is more of a definition from Time: Here's our list of the 100 men and women whose power, talent or moral example is transforming the world. Artists & EntertainersScientists & ThinkersLeaders & RevolutionariesBuilders & TitansHeroes & Pioneers I believe they mean "transforming the world" in a GOOD way. Maybe that is whe George W. Bush is NOT on the list.

Bush will never know that, though. His handlers won't tell him.
^ That makes much more sense. P.S.- It's not Nathaniel, just Nathan. I do prefer the name Nathaniel though.
^That comment addressed to patch. I love cranky too though.

130 votes and counting! o_O
Holy Cow! It's up to 163. Who is voting!?
Voted : He Is Not On It Because He Has Lost all Credibility in the World
He alienated all except a few hard core allies, (like the ones that are spamming these kind of ballots) took a golden opportunity to make a difference in the World and succeeded in screwing it up, spent his political capital, (including funding for social programs everyone will need as they age) heated up what is a ongoing situation with "terrorists," which can't (or shouldn't be defined as win or lose) everyone's in let the clock run out mode, and I predict he's in deep, deep trouble after he leaves office...still important, yes, influential ? No. he's just the "commander" guy...when the President appears on "American Idol" (cameo) ...you are hitting new lows...
Voted : Yes, George W. Bush Should be on the List
Influential doesn't mean good or bad, just influential. You could say Hitler was influential too, just to mention an extreme example.
Voted : No, George W. Bush Should not be on the List
What bunch of moe-rons ever put him *on* it?
Voted : He Is Not On It Because He Has Lost all Credibility in the World
he has the ability to influence but in a bad way.
Voted : Yes, George W. Bush Should be on the List
he's still the decider for the powerful weaponry in the world's history. Time magazine's trying to bluff everyone into happy land or some crap?

Powerful should not be interpretated to mean influential...at this point in the "game"...
