About a hundred things came to mind when I read this, all of which violated your conditions.
All I will say is that its a disgraceful situation, and I hope he will be given the chance to return a.s.a.p

You say he wasn't racist? OK then, call him something else, just so long as it adequately describes someone whose online mission over a 4-year period was to trawl the Net for stories that vilify muslims & disseminate them on this website.
The underlying message behind herzog's oh-so-reasonable words was invariably mean-spirited and divisive (did he think his constant barrage of finger-pointing at Islam would help draw the global community together?) and consequently I don't think this site is a worse place for his passing.
I miss gagoonies more, there was a flavour of honesty about his prejudice that was entirely lacking in herzog's sugar-coated islamophobia.
where did i attack his detractors? pull out that text and post it here. where? there's a huge difference between an attack and an observation.
so go pull out the "attack" text.
what i do notice is that you couldn't just not comment. if you didn't have anything to add but the usual baseless personal and viscious attacks, why comment at all? you can't help yourself, can you? i guess you thought you could make a baseless claim that i attacked his detractors, which then would justify your attack? won't wash. i'm calling you on this. post the text from my ballot that is the supposed attack on his detractors.

don't be so hostile dungster. its time that we on b&w started stamping out the venom and hatred. my mistake was allowing choices, so i admit that was my fault. but like i said, i was pretty clear in my ballot that this is not a place for viscious attacks. doesn't mean this has to be a herzog love-fest ;) but i much prefer calm and rational debate, even if it is less than glowing about herzog.
rama the ballot was just so we know that herzog won't be coming back, not to cause conflict. He did state that.

I cant say I blame Herzog for saying away, everyone seems so bitter towards eachother on this site now, even im not here as much as I used to be for that very reason. Yes his anti Islam and anti black ballots were very tiresome but I never found him to be rude or nasty. Ive been here for some two and a half years now and most of the great users have gone, Tads, qui qui, mags, Cathexis and even steels not here too often now, does this tell us anything at all???

^ so you really don't take the time to read ballots and comments before you launch in, do you? i suggest you read the ballot again and that comment you question one more time. proves what i said -- that if you get called on personal attacks on herzog, you just switch it to the person sticking up for him and call him/me his "butt buddy" or that he is my "master" and the attacks continue. gee, do you think maybe you have a problem controlling your temper? the days of unchallenged personal attacks are over on here. if you can't back them up with hard evidence, you're going to get challenged.

Exactly why he CANT return. I was inferring with my comment that LCD had forced him to choose btween his principles and his participation on this site, a non-choice in reality.
You could probably argue that LCD owes Herzog an apology before he returns, but he should certainly unban him and give him back maintainer status. An apology is unlikely, but at least do the right thing and rectify the mistake.

I mean seriously, no offence to Cranky, but its getting a bit sad the way he keeps posting anti-republican ballots etc when their is no one to disagree with him.
I'll play the role of the "conservative" on some issues, but I dont have much interest in partisan American politics, something Herzog would have been happy to talk about all day. I cant believe Cranky and other liberal users actually get much satisfaction out of presenting ballots to a site full of liberal yes men.
