"many Americans express fear that the nation's populous will look more like Mexico than Germany" i guess they want the aryan america huh? I really have a problem with awarding citizenship to the illegal aliens. There are people awaiting their citizenship papers back in the old country. they should give them any citizenship that we are handing out, not to those who came and stayed here illegally. and I am fine if they look like mexicans or germans, in a thousand years we will all be about the same color anyways...

I agree with you LCD but what do you do with the illegals that are already here?
anything but "roundin' em up and ship them back", which probably is what you are hearing from those call in radio shows.. 1. The most important: increase fines to those who hire them. about $10k per head will make these people think twice about hiring illegals. 2. deport them when they are caught doing something illegal - and impose 10x the penalty if they are caught coming back. 3. make it easier for those who wants to work to do so legally. issue temp work visas, and make them pay taxes on their earnings. 4. make the other countries liable for medical and other expenses that these people incur while they are here illegally. but that's just my opinion.

Sounds like the current guest worker program with some things you added in.A few problems with your plan though. 1.While employer fines sound like a good idea they are rarely enforced, the politicians don't want to piss off big business and lose funding of votes. We tried that in the 80's and got no where. 4. Good luck getting Mexico or any other nation South of the Border to pay for social services their citizens use in America. If these governments where actually providing those services their people wouldn't be breaking into America.
"the politicians don't want to piss off big business and lose funding" so rather than punishing people who really benefit from it, we should torture peasant farmers eeking out a living? politicians on both sides should grow some back bones.

Either way the damage is past done.Grant amnesty and experience a whole litany of problems or deny them and wait for major hostilities to ensue. I laugh when white people promote their universalistic ideas considering no other surviving race of people are naive enough to embrace it.If Mexicans emigrated en masse to China the commoners would respond in what way???How about five million Dominicans emigrating to Congo?Yeah(lol).
"The program drew fire from liberal groups that said it was unworkable." (AP) "Sen. Byron Dorgan, D-N.D., said he would try to kill the temporary worker program because it would bring in a potentially unlimited stream of immigrants to compete with Americans for jobs and depress wages. (AP) Oh, those darn liberal Democratic cohorts of Bush's I'm sure the Republicans were unanimously against this bill. "Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., who led the charge last year to push through an immigration overhaul, called the deal "the first step" and urged moving it forward before the politics of 2008 made such action impossible." (AP) "(Republican Senator, Jon) Kyl said the measure wasn't perfect, "but it represents the best opportunity that we have in a bipartisan way to do something about this problem." (AP) "Many Republicans praised the plan." (Bloomberg) "Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell said there is ``reason for optimism'' the Senate would pass the ``landmark piece of legislation.'' (Bloomberg) Hurray for the unified stance of Republicans against the bill by Bush and his Democratic cohorts. Uh, or something like that.
Voted : The standard should be equitable
During the Civil Rights Movement, nationality was no longer part of the criteria for immigration. I believe the idea was that basing immigration on nationality or race was less acceptable than before.
"During the Civil Rights Movement, nationality was no longer part of the criteria for immigration." Race has always been a criteria for immigration.Special interests fought for control and still do to this day. There is no such thing as an impartial agenda.
Perhaps the First Nations would have liked to have a say about the Spanish and British invaders 500 years ago.
cranky: My god man are you so deep in the DNC's pocket that you have to pretend that this amnesty bill did not have bipartisan support?Edward Kennedy, a leading voice in the Democrat party for 40 odd years came up with the damn thing for crying out loud. And the hack of the year award goes to cranky for excusing the sell outs in his beloved Democrat party.Congrats cranky!
I agree. I doubt if the Dems are really different

"So it appears that Bush and his cohorts in the Democrat party are going to push through their Immigration reform whether the American people want it or not." Actually, Corrupt, it was YOU who refused to acknowledge that this deal has bi-partisan support AND bi-partisan opposition. You claim that it was Bush -- who you ridiculously claim is a liberal -- and his Democrat "cohorts" who cooked up this gem, with no mention of the widespread Republican support. Bush has no Democratic cohorts, with the exception of "Judas" Joe Lieberman.
Nonsense cranky you I know I acknowledged that the GOP sold out America with this bill since in YOUR own ballot I wished the Republicans ill will in the 08 elections. Funny how you mentioned my "Bush is a liberal" comment but left out the "f**k the GOP" part. Then again you are a 10th degree black belt in Hackery so I would expect nothing less, GrandMaster cranky.
We already do. The people WE elect decide that very issue.
