Is there such a thing as a "socially inept extrovert"? Yeah, a lot of people do suck, but you don't mate. Repeat after me, Nuck is nearly as cool as IC, and we don't give a f*ck what anyone says!!! :o)
Is there such a thing as a "socially inept extrovert"? Basically I'm saying that I can talk about all sorts of things once the ball is rolling, but I have trouble getting it rolling and breaking the ice.

99.2834% of the people I've met suck. The rest of you know who you are.

Wow this is THE MISANTHROPIC ballot; none before it and none after it.I think you're too harsh on humanity nuck, we may have our cut throat tendecies but we also seem to be willing to help and even sacrafice ourselves for eachother. If most people were as horrible as you say they are this world would be a much more bloodier, chaotic place.

When you don't know how to start a conversation, ask the other person questions about things in their life, like kids, pets, hobbies, their job, etc. People like to talk about themselves.

In between. But I like my dogs more than half the population. Not only do war and crime suck, but so does office politics.

For the most part, people scare me. I don't trust most, unfortunately. To hide this, I act outgoing and happy when I'm out among my own species. I do exactly what RWS says, the Dale Carnegie approach. But I go out less and less these days -- in fact I have become a bit of a recluse. I take GREAT comfort in nature (except when it's cruel, but at least what we see as cruelty merely arises from hunger). I get outside as much as possible and try to notice the other inhabitants of my planet, whose motive are always up-front. My cats don't judge me either. Just some thoughts . . .

I take the nature thing to an extreme sometimes. I have several CDs of bird calls to familiarize myself with my feathered friends and what they are saying. It's very cool when you can walk outside and know exactly who's singing. It might sound nerdy, but that really enhances my enjoyment of life.

in general i like people. it took a while to get over my self-consciousness and fear of embarrassment - but then i finally realized that it didn't matter that much to me what they think. and so it's mainly a matter of curiousity .... "ohoh what i want to know-o, is are you kind?" The kind people i pursue relationships with, whereas the mean ones i avoid. (except the ones i'm stuck with but that's another story) you can spend your life in isolation, or you can take a chance and accept that now and then someones going to get the best of you - it's just one of those risks. you learn to minimize it. not everyone turns out to be a "best friend" but i've met many people worth the effort it took to get to know them.
I get enough news and witness enough ugly destruction that I've lost respect for humans as a whole.. but a few of the people I know give me some hope too!
