WHY HAS THE LIBERAL MEDIA NOT COVERED THE STORY OF VENEZUELAN PROTESTS?

[+] ballot by jakesnake5

In Venezuela president Hugo Chavez quiets his opposition by shutting down independent news stations, now making the news entirely government ran. There are enormous protests going on at this moment by the people of Venezuela. I have watched the news for hours and the only thing I heard was a little 10 second chatter on CNN headline news. Why has the liberal media not covered the story?

The news has not covered it enough
It's not an important story
The news have covered it enough
The media supports Chavez

What is this "liberal media" you speak of? If such a thing existed, do you *really* think that Mister Bush would've gotten into office *once*, much less *twice*?
by Truthseeker013 on Fri Jun 01, 07 8:10pm [+]

By Liberal I mean the stories that they choose to cover. I think it should be heard, the people of that country are having their freedom of speech taken away. Chavez promotes "Democratic socialism" and the different news channels that like Chavez don't want to speak out against him.

Well, surprisingly, the Bolshevik Broadcasting Commune actually has been giving rather extensive coverage to Fidel's Caracas girlfriend's latest shennanigans with RCTV and Globovision. Some of their usual gang of leftist suspects/viewers who post on the "Have Your Say" boards have actually been expressing their shock and dismay that someone who's an avowed admirer of Castro could actually use unsubstantiated accusations of treason as an excuse to shut down the opposition media.

Same old, same old routine from the Marxists of the world. Too bad he has the dumbass ghetto dwellers in the capital under his thumb with his "bread and circuses." Imagine what would happen here if that thick-skulled bumbler Dubya tried to shut down "The New York Times" or Radio Pacifica or "The New Republic" or NPR. There would even be Republicans looking to depose him, but, of course, that loudmouthed pumpkinhead Chavez just steamrolls all over his bunch.
by Felix on Fri Jun 01, 07 10:24pm [+]

Probably because it happened in Venezuela. That much being said, censorship sucks.

Gee, I don't know why the commies at Fox News haven't covered this story more.

Except that maybe Chavez shuts down the opposition every other day, and protests in Venezuala happen every other day, and this is happening is a small South American country that is more of a curiosity than anything relevant to the United States.

True, rightwingers love to get hysterical over Chavez, but I don't think a legitimate news outlet has to let it's selection of stories be dictated by rightwing pundit drama queens.

And why is it that when righties are howling about the liberal media (which is, in fact, very conservative), they never mention the fascistic Fox News Network?

And I did happen to hear about this, on NPR.

Oh, if only Charles Lindbergh was here to save us!

"liberal media" lololololol
Oohh, you kids and your tv's!
by Jyl on Sat Jun 02, 07 6:29am [+]

Cranky:

I'd give one of my eye teeth to have you live one week under an actual full-fledged fascist government (with media in tow), so you wouldn't be such a drama queen yourself and indulge in utter hyperbole. Have you ever actually seen any examples of media from a truly fascist society? Here's a clue: nationalism, by itself, which Fox News does promote, is not fascism. This is not to say I take Fox all that seriously...

"True, rightwingers love to get hysterical over Chavez, but I don't think a legitimate news outlet has to let it's selection of stories be dictated by rightwing pundit drama queens."

You need to learn the difference between "its" and "it's" as a starter. "Its" is the possessive, Billy Bob.

As far as this being a minor story only of interest to foaming-at-the-mouth right-wingers, no, I think not. I've heard in-depth coverage on moderate left NPR and on BBC radio, among other outlets. Chavez has forced the world's attention on him, with a constant barrage of anti-American statements, grandstanding at the UN, and political machinations in South and Central America and further abroad. Now, it truly appears that he's nothing more or less than a petty Fidelista who will brook no opposition at home and is strangling off free speech to replace it with rubber stamp media. That is a major story, and IT'S very telling.

It was covered on CBC which is pretty Liberal.
by ClosetIguana on Sat Jun 02, 07 8:42am [+]

I wonder if Felix cleaned the grunt out of his pants before or after he responded?

And as many fine-fingered rightwingers do, when desperate, they morph into grammar nazis. Oh, touche', Miss Felix!

And as for giving away teeth, you probably can't afford to lose many more.

"It truly appears that he's nothing more or less than a petty Fidelista who will brook no opposition at home and is strangling off free speech to replace it with rubber stamp media. That is a major story, and IT'S very telling."

Actually, that sounds like Bush, although the members of the refined right don't seem to have much to say about that.

I must say, I do find your writing voice -- which sounds like you have a terminal case of hemorrhoids -- to be interesting, indeed. Not to mention the Charles Lindbergh fetish.
by cranky on Sat Jun 02, 07 8:53am [+]

Well, cranky Carter, at least I've a modicum of writing style, some command of grammar, and an actual, credible hero (albeit of the flawed, tragic variety), unlike your own illiterate & pathetic apologetics for that bumbling self righteous cretin, Jimmy-boy from Plains. I could scarcely contain my uncontrollable laughter when Jimmy-boy branded Dubya "worst President ever." It was a bit like listening to Laurel taking Hardy to task for his lack of plumbing and carpentry skills. I'm sure that had you creaming your own trousers, since you seem to have a fetish of your own for whatever Bush bashing's fashionable that week, no matter how impeachable or questionable the source.

When, my fine simpleton, are you going to learn that "conservative" is a wide label and includes many who aren't: (a) Republican neocons; (b) apologists for the religious right; or (c) Bush-boostering zombies? I doubt you can make that distinction, since you appear to glean all of your information from various left-wing websites written by those with no credentials in their chosen subjects (much like a certain silly linguist who mistakenly branched off into politics whom we all know).

Oh, and sorry, I missed the news about the stormtroopers storming the "Democracy Now!" offices and the bill that was ramrodded through Congress that made criticizing President-for-Life Dubya in the national media a criminal offense. Oh, wait, those thngs happened in Venzuela, right? I thought it must've been when I was in Canada last fall.

"As for the Ballot question, there is no such thing as a Liberal Media, you righties should get over yourselves..."

You're a parrot, whom someone taught to log onto the internet and type, right? Would you like a cracker, or just a link to the unhinged rant of the day on the "Daily Kos"? Nice polly!
by Felix on Sat Jun 02, 07 10:00am [+]

You know, I don't think that CNN cares about anything that doesn't affect America. Consider that once India and Pakistan were at a standoff that the CIA had to break off. No mention by CNN
by aya on Sat Jun 02, 07 10:55am [+]

Because the media is controled by the government in that county.

You can't cover a story when you can't even get the story out of the country.

p.s. The guy is a dictator, hardly a 'liberal.'

Why didn’t the liberal media report the lies that lead us into the Iraq war? Why didn’t the liberal media report the election fraud that took place in the 2004 election? If the liberal media is so liberal then why does it still take orders from the white house?
Because the liberal media is a myth.
