Lieberman: U.S. Should Weigh Iran Attack

WASHINGTON — Sen. Joseph Lieberman said Sunday the United States should consider a military strike against Iran because of Tehran's involvement in Iraq.

"I think we've got to be prepared to take aggressive military action against the Iranians to stop them from killing Americans in Iraq," Lieberman said. "And to me, that would include a strike over the border into Iran, where we have good evidence that they have a base at which they are training these people coming back into Iraq to kill our soldiers."

He added, "If they don't play by the rules, we've got to use our force, and to me, that would include taking military action to stop them from doing what they're doing."

It would be a disaster for the United States. Some people may not like to hear this, but under Bush, he has spent so much money on the Iraq debacle that he has literally put us in the weakest position we have ever been in for a very long time. The global community will not sit by while this President launches yet another military follie that will destabilize the globe. If he had not invaded Iraq, it might be a different story, but right now, few people believe anything we say. Thank Bush. Anyway, we're in a position now in which less than friendly nations have enormous influence over our economy.

Mark the date down: the day we strike Iran, without a doubt, will be the beginning of a major depression on our economy and we will literally be broke. Not just from over-spending, but from outside pressures. See, during the Cold War, experts agree that it was a unified war of words and economics agaist the former Soviet Union. Those same principles and tactics ARE being used against us now and they will just tighten the noose. It really stumps me how many people are so ignorant to these facts. Let Joseph Lieberman make his idiotic statements, but you can partially blame him when it all comes tumbeling down...which it will, without fail.

Drudge implicates Israel behind Lieberman’s call for bombing Iran. Middle East Progress responds:

Whatever one thinks of Senator Lieberman’s statements on Iran, implying as the Drudge Report does, that Senator Lieberman made his proposal based not on his views as a United States Senator but on his relationship to Israel is despicable. …. That picture has no relation, either temporally or substantively, to the statement Senator Lieberman made on CBS’ Face the Nation on Sunday.

Drudge’s picture, which has now been taken down, depicts Lieberman shaking hands with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert:
