One thing that always bothered me was the fact that a man can marry a non-Muslim woman and get away with it. This is because the children are supposed to take the father's religion. But wait, why can't you let the children choose which religion to be part of? And another thing always bothered me, allowing for men to inherit more than their sisters, for the fact that men are supposed to support the entire family, while the woman is allowed to spend her earnings on whatever. Wait a minute, don't women work nowadays? And don't men generally earn more than women?

Wouldn't these things bother you if you converted?

I think more muslim men should marry Jewish women.

Then the children would be jewish muslims, (Judaism is based on maternal lineage) and if there's enough of that in the middle east, there would be fewer conflicts.

Yes it would bother me, in fact when I ask questions like this to my Muslim friends, they always say thats the way it is, never really give an explanation, we have very few arguments, but when this subject comes up , they do get defensive and pretty much say, it's not my concern, end of subject.

Another thing, and this is not just Muslims, I think people of all faiths do this, if you question anything, they say if you were of this faith, you would understand. WHaaaat, that is so frustrating, because it pretty much ends the discussion, unless you convert and see if that makes it more clear.

IIRC in Islam, if either of the parents is muslim, then the children are considered muslim as well.

Well, barring a personal visitation from Allah, I'm not converting. However, were I a Muslim woman, I would deal with the oppression of living under a veil, subordination to the husband, and other evils before I worried about who can marry whom.

Let's face it, Islam is a totally effed up, backwards religion.

It's one thing if an Islamic woman wears a burka in an Islamic country, but when I see that idiocy in my own community here in the States, I say to myself, "Now there's one stupid bitch!" At least in the Middle East a woman can claim she's wearing it under duress and may face a stoning if she doesn't allow herself to be treated like an animal. But when a woman who lives in a free country voluntarily degrades herself, she deserves to be degraded.
