A mayor in the US state of Louisiana says he will sign into law a proposal to make wearing saggy trousers an act of indecent exposure.
Delcambre town council unanimously passed the ordinance earlier this week making it a crime to wear trousers that show underwear.
"If you expose your private parts, you'll get a fine" of US$500 (£254) Mayor Carol Broussard said.
Offenders will also risk up to six months in jail.
Fashionable
Speaking of people who wear saggy trousers, Mr Broussard told the Associated Press news agency: "They're better off taking the pants off and just wearing a dress."
Town attorney Ted Ayo said the ordinance expands on the existing state indecent exposure law by adding underwear to the list of forbidden exposures.
"This is a new ordinance that deals specifically with sagging pants," Mr Ayo said. "It's about showing off your underwear in public."
Some residents say the ordinance targets blacks, as low-slung trousers are fashionable among hip hop fans.
Mr Broussard denied it was racially motivated.

What are your thoughts on this?

It takes away freedom of expression
It’s a good thing, should be passed in all 50 states
Not sure how I feel about this

It's stupid and it will never work. Personally I hate chavster "fashion" but to control what people wear is an invasion into one's privacy and freedom. A bloody aggression really. And the proposed penalty is also absurdly severe.
There is another moronic aspect to it: obese blokes or guys with small bums, for example, often find it hard to keep their trousers in place and inadvertedly put their arse cleavages on display. Now should they pay a fine because they can't find a decent pair of trousers?!?

I was at my local Target yersterday, and some kid wandered past me, on his way to the checkout line, pants down past his butt, fighting to hold two armloads of merchandise in his right arm because his left ahnd was busy holding his pants up so he wouldn't trip and fall on his face. Such could be the future, if we're not careful.sad

They are just making it for difficult for the rest of us to visualy weed out the morons.

The alternative would be having to actually converse with those people.

It seems kind of intrusive to me. Almost Puritanical in a way. I don't think it's a good idea and I think governments, whether they be local or national, have much more to focus on than baggy pants.

I personally disaprove but there could be a challenge in court due to so many other styles of clothing that may be even more revealing...(thongs,hot pants, Daisy Dukes, etc )
see ballot #101705 I believe if we ignore it (maybe) it will pass as people get older...

It's not so much freedom of expression, just a dumb law, why not make a law against smoking in a kids face or something more "serious?" How in the world is this serious enough to make a law against?
