ER STORY.... YOU OPINION PLEASE

[+] serious ballot by larrynelmira

There was a situation in LA, where this lady was neglected by ER staff at the Martin Luther King Hospital and she died.

That reminded me of a situation at the hospital where I work part time, my job is in the pharmacy, help stock and deliver medication to the floors. I have no interaction with the patients what so ever, but one day I was hanging in the emergency room, and a man probably in his early twenties who attended a business school came in to er with chest pains.

The doctor on duty, who in my opinion is an arrogant asshole, actually made fun of this person, said “what were you doing, typing when you got these pains, and he called me over and said look at this, and pointed out a few hairs the person had on his chest, and laughed about it to me, also made fun of the patients size, away from the patient but he heard the doctor say this, I’m sure “He’s kind of a weakling isn’t he, a little sissy, nothing wrong with his heart, other than it being small”

The person actually had tears in his eyes, and some of the other nurses were just as bad, snickering along with the doctor. Finally, I think being so embarrassed he put his clothes on and walked out, the nurse at the station said “ The doctor hasn’t discharged you, if you leave sign this paper blah , blah blah. So the person signed and left.

Fortunately all his test came back okay, the doctor said he probably got tired of typing and wanted a day off school.

Alright, this doctor, imo, was not only making fun of him as a person , but making fun of his career choice, not all people can be doctors, and I felt like telling this arrogant jerk that, but didn’t.

Maybe medical staff can tell when someone has real symptoms or faking, but as the LA case proved, sometimes you can’t, and maybe he did have chest pains, even if it’s indigestion, better safe than sorry.

What is your opinion on all of the above?

The doctor was right to treat him in such a way
The doctor was wrong
The doctor was a jerk
The Patient was a jerk
The patient was wrong to seek er help
The doctor and nurses need a severe ass beating!
SORRY, THIS POLL
IS NOW CLOSED.

Voted : The doctor and nurses need a severe ass beating!
and i'd like to beat it for them ;)

That's SO fucked up, what kind of doctor acts like that? Geez all my doctors are always sweet and actually gentle type of guys that probably don't have much chest hair, lol

I feel bad for the guy that was made to feel inadequate, i hope he keyed their fancy cars ;)

Voted : The doctor was a jerk
And he was wrong. And I'll give the a$$ beating for free, socal.

This reminds me of a William Hurt movie back in the early 90s (I think), called "The Doctor". He played an arrogant doctor who is forced to reevaluate his behavior and treatment of patients when he's diagnosed with cancer. Sounds like a movie this guy needs to see.
by Truthseeker013 on Tue Jun 19, 07 8:53am [+]

What a fucking twat, that doc is. And so are the nurses. Maybe one day, that doctor will find himself in some sort of trouble and then some guy will just laugh his arse off in front of him instead of helping him. Ah! we need poetic justice so much in this world...
by seamus on Tue Jun 19, 07 8:57am [+]

^ lets both beat him!

I think one of the worst things is when someone picks on anyone, for any reason for the sole purpose of hurting someone, it makes me sick. I'm sure the poor guy wanted to hang himself after that...that sucks.

Good ballot larry

And they call themselves "professionals".

that guy could have had a coronary problem. he could have dropped dead on the doorstep as he walked out.

Yeah, I noticed that kind of behavior and attitude. As someone is dying in one room, these guys are joking and eating snacks in the other.

another thing that is wrong with the current health system. I wonder if this type of behavior goes on in other countries.
by Guide on Tue Jun 19, 07 12:25pm [+]

Voted : The doctor was wrong
I'm sure it goes on in all countries, but not in all hospitals.

Cases like the one in LA (and ones similiar to this one) just get the most attention because it's got more of a gossip factor.

I mean, what sells news more... A patient ignored on a hospital floor or a patient treated like a king?
by Grumpy_Person on Tue Jun 19, 07 1:45pm [+]

There was no reason for the doctor to have even called me into this persons exam room.

My job has nothing to do with caring for the patients, other than delivering medication to the floors.
I hang around the ER to talk to the staff, especially the nurses, because that's what I'm going to be. Although I was disappointed with the behaviour of a few in this situation.
by larrynelmira on Tue Jun 19, 07 3:33pm [+]

social, my doctor is very nice , and this Doctor, usually is okay, or this might be first time I was around to witness his bad behaviour. But he seems okay with other patients, I'm thinking maybe he might be little homophobic, not that I know if this person was gay, but that might have been the impression the Doctor got. Which doesnt make it right of course, actually makes it worse if true.
by larrynelmira on Tue Jun 19, 07 3:47pm [+]

Yeah but it's no excuse how he acted, he's an asswipe...i guess just try and deal with the ass and do your job and since your job really doesn't surround him concider yourself lucky. If someone makes fun of someone else infront of co-workers then he is definatly showing his true colors, especially someone in there to see HIM, he's supposed to be professional. Imagine how he treats his wife and kids *blech* :P

Great ballot lar :)
by socal_sweetie on Tue Jun 19, 07 4:20pm [+]

Doesn't matter what his hang-up is larry. What the fuck does he think this is? fucking high school? He needs to get the ever lovin' shit fucking beat out of him. I hope he gets run over!!
by aya on Tue Jun 19, 07 5:13pm [+]

Hey , I'm not making excuses for this doctor, no reason for what he did, and if he is homophobic, thats even more scary.

When I was saying how nice (MY Doctors) have always been, was only agreeing with sweetie,
"Geez all my doctors are always sweet and actually gentle type of guys " by socal_sweetie

I know this ER doc is a total jerk, but I think he is the exception not the rule. I hope that is the case.
by larrynelmira on Tue Jun 19, 07 6:20pm [+]
