"In any event, we never used nuclear weapons against civilians, and we never dumped chemicals on thousands of kilometres of land or dropped more bombs on a tiny country than were dropped during the entire Second World War, as was the case in Vietnam,'' he said. I can’t imagine what would make Vladimir Putin say something so hypocritical. At least he admits that “other countries have also known their bleak and terrible moments,” but to say that the Soviet era was less “bleak” than the United States is really beyond ridiculous. He must be forgetting what history proves such as these facts: Russia, as the Soviet Union, oppressed many nations, including: Ukraine Belorussia Estonia Latvia Lithuania Moldavia Gerogia Armenia Azerbaijan Uzbek Kazakh Tajik Turkmen Kirghiz As well as other Eastern European nations, such as: Bulgaria Romania Hungary East Germany Poland Albania Czechoslovakia And I guess he forgot that under Stalin, the government of the Soviet Union sent over 20 million of it’s own citizens to the Gulags in Siberia, where it is estimated that over 10 million of them died and the rest were not heard from again, so the number could be most of that 20 million that their own government killed. In addition to those sent to the Gulag to die, Stalin also outright killed 1 million members of the Communist party across the Soviet Union. They also invaded Afghanistan and reportedly used chemical weapons on them as well. I know that many people are unhappy with the United States right now, but if you could please put that aside for a minute when you comment. For Vladimir Putin to make such a ridiculous claim is so insulting to the millions that died under Soviet oppression and to the millions more in other countries that they brutally occupied.
