It's not the cause of ALL evil, but religion has produced a lot of evil people.

A lack of it is the cause...evil people using the veneer of religion to further their selfish ambitions is the problem.
The love of money which translates to the ability to have "creature comforts" above and beyond what's needed or necessary (servants, slaves, overpriced cars, oversized houses, V.I.P status, lackeys, armies, bombs, POWER,) to the exclusion of many others not even having bread and water...(food, clothing, and shelter)

Some people just don't like anyone.
You have to look at it this way: Religion does not cuase the evil, its the people who interpret it wrongly who cuase it.

My personal opinion is that Religion is heavily linked with ignorance, but I do not think that it is overtly evil. There is no doubt that religion has caused the masses to hate, to cower in fear and to obey without question, but some people find comfort and solace in the idea of humanity being watched over by a higher being(s). There are some aspects in religion that are considered evil in life; such as tyranny and murder. If God was a man he would be considered a tyrant and a murderer, but if he does indeed exist, then he is not a man, and therefore how can the human definition of evil be applied to him or his church?

It's just one of many fertile breeding grounds.
Human nature is the cause of evil.

technically, i don't agree. in theory, i do. i think most religions are based in the fundamental care and concern for protecing all life. in other words, faith in and of itself is not the problem -- the bastardization of faith and religious principles are. if you look at the core principles of the major religions, they're based on similar principles or codes of conduct. but man has pretty much latched onto religion to advance their own agenda, which ineveitably means war, greed, control and opression. sad really. i think this is one of the reasons that more people are foresaking a named religion and opting to describe themselves as spiritual. very interesting questio whok. timely too.
Voted : Yes I agree.
In that the phrase, and ideology behind the phrase evil, were almost certainly first coined, and definitely developed and preached by some sort of religious nutters. Many of the events that fall under the catchall term "evil" are in fact quite natural, and have been considered thus in different places and times. However, if you mean "religious faith is the CAUSE of all things that fall under the nebulous definition of evil that our current society uses" then the answer is clearly no.

No, not all evil. But a hell of a lot of evil has been perpetrated in the name of religion - usually (not always) by blind followers of ludicrous doctrines.
Imagine: no september 11, no IRA, no Israel to be disputed over, no Holocaust, no crusades, no Inquisition, no Salem witch trials, no murders of doctors giving abortions, no suicide bombings, no antisemitism, no subjugation of women for centuries, no holy justification for slavery, no anti-science teaching of 'creationism' in our schools weakening the brains of our children, no artificial and meaningless divisions foisted upon us based on ancient mythology, no spiritualism and paranormalists and mediums stealing money from the vunerable. Fuck. The list could go on and on and on.

no because if you take away religion evil will still be there.

And you're the essence of all homosexuality. The only reason you're so against religion is because the majority of religions out there in this world speak against homosexuality which goes against you because that would mean you have to stop sucking cock when in reality God loves us all cock suckers or not and no where does it say in scripture that we all have to hate against different ethnicities or people with different lifestyles. In case you haven't taken the time to read it, it clearly says to love one another and love your enemies as well. Even for people who don't have a religious faith this could be very helpful advice if you just take the time to study it. You don't have to believe but it's not overall bad, people just misunderestimate scripture and get the wrong idea. I know I may not be showing a right example at the moment but I just hate cock suckers like you who don't mind their own business and you're always bashing peoples beliefs. You could go ahead and not believe in anything but leave us alone.
