I've only had a cat and a fish, and the fish was more stressful to me, because of all the water-changing and tank-cleaning. Patricia (my cat) never once missed the litter box, and the shredding issues were minimal. :-)

They eat from one box and shit in another. If it's an indoor cat, your only problem would be the occasional hairball which is usually deposited in front of a doorway while you're asleep. Just be careful when you wake up to go take that morning whiz.

Aya, my cat hacks up a hairball maybe once-a-month and never shits on the floor. She's a 13-year-old white persian. The choice breed of megalomaniacs who want to take over the world.
