Do you prefer a pet shop, a breeder, or animal control? The latter commonly referred to as "the pound."

I'd go to the pound, myself, because castaways make the best, most loving pets, in my brief experience of being owned by a pet. (Yes, I did get that right.)

PUPPY!

POUND! Always! You can find pure bred animals at the pound also! I have to call animal control on a purebred pomeranian that's been running around my house, i put ads in the found section, nobody has claimed him and i can't keep him.

There are plenty of purebreds in the pound, plenty of all kinds of dogs and cats that NEED love :)

I would go to the Scarborough Animal Shelter right nearby. Incidently, Karla HOmolka used to work there

We got our cat from a neighbor who lives a few houses away. They breed Persians.

Sure, call me evil.

Either an animal shelter or a breeder, it depends on what kind of pet (dog or cat) I want and what I want him for.

The shelter is fine to me for cats. But if I want a dog for my family or for working purposes, I'll go to a breeder where I'll know his background and bloodline.

The shelter makes a difference too. Many of the "no-kill" shelters charge more for dropping pets off and as a result, they usually get animals that were well cared for and loved enough that the owner wanted assurance that they would not be put to sleep and go to good homes.

Never from a pet shop though. Some have been known to get their's from puppy mills and will falsify pedigrees.
