Janet Napolitano created the state crime of hiring illegal immigrants and requires all businesses to verify the employment eligibility of workers through a federal database. If an employer hires an illegal alien they could face having their business licence suspended under this law. This is meant to cut the economic incentive of greedy corperations that hire illegals and exploit them for profit. Critics claim that this law will almost certainly lead to discrimination against Arizona's Mexican-American population as employers may fear hiring them only to discover they are not legal. I think this is a legitimate concern, but because most illgeals in that state are Mexicans whose first language is spanish, I would assume that most employers would be smart enough to recognize the difference between a Mexican and an American. Personally I think this law could be a move in the right direction. It's time the employers should take the penalty for a system they have abused.
