later another man walks through the broken door and kills your cat.

Because the dog killer broke the door, allowing someone to enter and kill the cat, do we blame the dog killer for both deaths and never speak badly of the cat killer?

Because they're both sick bastiches. And we'd get the first guy as an accessory after the fact for the cat's murder, since he provided the means for the second crime to occur by leaving open access to the house.
