This capped off a decade of mankind achieving the seemingly impossible - landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to Earth. This managed to be done despite all of the turmoil of the 1960s. Once again the US is mired in an unpopular war. However, there seems to be no unifying dream or accomplishment that the country wants to achieve. Normally not a very quotable president, Nixon stated: "For one priceless moment in the whole history of man, all the people on this Earth are truly one; one in their pride in what you have done, and one in our prayers that you will return safely to Earth." "This is the greatest week in the history of the world since the Creation." Armstrong replied (via phone), "Thank you, Mr. President.
