A Senator said “I must say, you ladies look lovely today”

On C-Span, the other night, they showed senate hearings of yesteryear, one of the older Senators told a group of ladies there to testify about women’s health issues, that they looked lovely today,. “I take offence to that,” said one of the women, “would you have told a man sitting here that he looked lovely?”

A little tit for tat, back and forth for a few minutes before they finally got down to business.

What you think, all to do about nothing or fair response from the female witness?

yeah. i'm sure the old geezer meant it as a compliment and it's probably cuz he's from a different generation, but what does their looking lovely have to do with the testimony they're giving on women's health issues?

so if it were a group of men, would he have said "i must say, you men look so sexy today. if i were gay, i'd have a go at you." or what if it was a lady senator and she said, "man, look at the package on that guy -- woooo, hot!"

how about if the senator said "wow, look at the jugs on that broad!"

This has happened to me at work a few times. I took umbrage (though I kept it to myself).

I think we're conditioned to do this, I have complimented women I work with , I didn't realize I was offending them.

^ Not a problem, IMO, unless you give the compliment before the business of the day is discussed. In that case, it puts the woman at a disadvantage from the get-go.
