yeah. i'm sure the old geezer meant it as a compliment and it's probably cuz he's from a different generation, but what does their looking lovely have to do with the testimony they're giving on women's health issues? so if it were a group of men, would he have said "i must say, you men look so sexy today. if i were gay, i'd have a go at you." or what if it was a lady senator and she said, "man, look at the package on that guy -- woooo, hot!" how about if the senator said "wow, look at the jugs on that broad!"
I've had people say "you look nice today" that didn't offend me.

Though I have heard it said to other women testifying on the Hill before.

This has happened to me at work a few times. I took umbrage (though I kept it to myself). As Kev so aptly put it, "What does their looking lovely have to do with the testimony they're giving on women's health issues?"

I think we're conditioned to do this, I have complimented women I work with , I didn't realize I was offending them.
^ Not a problem, IMO, unless you give the compliment before the business of the day is discussed. In that case, it puts the woman at a disadvantage from the get-go.
