BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (Aug. 1) - Indiana tight end Blake Powers was arrested after he threw a water balloon from one car into another, hitting an off-duty police officer. Authorities said the 22-year-old Powers was released from the Monroe County Jail after he was booked Monday night on a preliminary misdemeanor charge of battery.

According to a police report, Powers admitted that while a car in which he was riding was stopped at a traffic signal, he had tossed a water balloon through the open window of another car, striking the driver in the head.

The driver, Paul Wampler, was an Indiana University police officer who had just gotten off work and was heading home. Wampler was in uniform in his personal vehicle.

Wampler then followed the other vehicle, which had four occupants, to a residence where Powers admitted throwing the water balloon, the report said. The occupants said they had not realized the person in the other car was a police officer.

All four car occupants tested negative for alcohol use, said IU police Capt. Jerry Minger.

Powers, a senior, is a former starting quarterback who switched position this spring and is currently the No. 2 tight end.

Coaches were informed of the incident, said team spokesman Jeff Keag.

"We are aware of the situation, and any team discipline will be handled internally," he said.

It might have been more of an accident it seems. Since he says he didn't know it was an officer, but either way, how stupid. He has to do community service or pay a fine over a water balloon! The officer needs to take a joke, if it was actually a joke. If he's just throwing water balloons at people to make them mad then i can see the officer maybe being pissed and giving him a warning, but battery? Hmmm

No, would you want someone to throw a water balloon in the window of your car, hitting you in the head? I'd be pissed too.

But cops have to protect their reps, you know. If one person lobs a baloon at one, then another will, and respect is lost.

"Balloon", please. Pardon the misspelling.

Throwing a water balloon at someone you don't know was wrong plus he picked the wrong car so maybe in the future they won't do that sort of thing...your grandmother could have been that car...it could also have an effect on the electronics or a cell phone in the car...

"We are aware of the situation, and any team discipline will be handled internally,"?

What's wrong with a public trial for assault?

or are they allowed special treatment, because they can throw around a pigskin?

unbelievable. I bet they attend dog fights and strangle small animals too.

we should treat assholes like assholes they are.

What matters is that he did it on the road, and made it more dangerous for everyone.
