i don't think so. i'm actually not all that keen on nation or people bashing, but i do think people are irrational when it comes to american bashing. most of it is just ludicrous and blatantly false. but, we deserve criticism when it's warranted and i think most americans welcome it. same goes for china -- if they need to be called to task for misdeeds, they should be. but yeah, we've noticed that people are so busy being hysterical in attackind the usa that they let china off the hook and russia and even their own countries. i've read peeps on here rant on about america being a police state (ridiculous) and while they're doing it, their own governments are putting in more cameras and tracking devices. it'd be funny if it weren't so unsettling.

Anything bad that we do, China does worse. Sweatshops, slave labor, 3 cents pay a day (or similar)... oh and they continue to obstruct international efforts to end the genocide in Sudan. Of course, maybe that's because Mao and his crew committed genocide on their own people on a colossal scale.

I studied China and Chinese history recently in school. Before my studies, all I understood was that China is essentially a great big old red communist blob. Afterwards, the historical context in which China operates has lent a far broader perspective on the whole scene.
Unified (relatively speaking) Chinese history began more than 200 years before Jesus of Nazereth, though less well-documented "Chinese" history extends thousands of years before that. Two millennia of dynastic cycles collapsed in the 19th and 20th centuries due primarily to foreign intervention, led by the British Empire. The 'Chinese', having been relatively isolated for centuries, felt they were exceptional -- the center of the earth. Problem? So did the British. Solution? Military technology.
- Of course things are way, way, way more involved than that; (e.g. Opium Wars), but we know the outcome. When one considers that contemporary Chinese identity was forged during the massive, violent, chaotic tumult of the 20th century--beginning with the collapse of the Chinese Empire--one might cut the Chinese some slack.
There is also the language barrier to consider. The impact of language on thought cannot be understated. I wonder how international or transnational relations would work if everyone woke up tomorrow fluent in each other's languages...
