Voted : No, they are not compatible.

At least, not if evolution is supposed to fit in with the earth being created 6000 years ago with Adam and Eve being the first residents.

I go along with evolution, since scientists are open to change and the theory is shifting with new discoveries, not static (like creationism).

I do, however, think there must be a grand designer in the background somewhere, when I ponder the wonders of nature (sorry if that sounds pretentious).

I have my own theory, but it only manages to prove how big a jacka$$ I can be when I set my mind to it...

Voted : No, they are not compatible.
I can't see how they can be compatible either, especially the time span thing as mojo pointed out.

They can be if one were so inlcined to remove the scientific dogma and the religious fundamentalism from the equation.

I know lots of Christians as well as scientists who are believers of both in one form or the other.

I think the bible is some summed up version but i think there is a God (high power) that created things to mass produce and evolve. There has to be, i mean i'm watching the "before the dinosaurs" and even then, they are all somehow THERE. They couldn't have just grown from eachother? If they did, and maybe after 2 bill. years they could have it is still amazing. The water, the sun, the perfect solar system. Earth being a perfect breeding ground. I often wonder. But due to many miraculous things that have happened to people and visions and wonders of the earth and wonders of the mind (knowing right and wrong, feelings emotion etc) i do believe in God, i mean there are too many visions people had and they couldn't have all been crazy, and too many miracles too. Even Henry Lee Lucas had a vision and he was into Satanism.

So they must be compatible. God is science.

Yeah mojo has a point I used to think creationisim just meant a higher power who created the universe in the timeline of science but if the only form of creationism you can have is that he (or she) created it in 6000 years I guess I’m not a creationist.
Also socal is right there has to be some kind of higher power even if he just created the big bang and said “Ok species of the universe your on your own” (I actually think that’s more likely)

A 6,000 year old earth isn't the only form of creationism you can have. It's the most extreme opposite of it's competitor, billions of years of evolution, so it's naturally going to get all the attention. It also gets a good bit of attention because it's those fundamantalistic type believers who crawl out of the woodwork when any religious issue pops up.
by Grumpy_Person on Thu Aug 02, 07 7:18pm [+]

Good point grumpy it’s also those believers who usually make the news. I guess it’s the same with any Religion.
