I dont think I would say it like that, but I belive with many (not all, I realize with some, they do have medical problem) it is because they have no self control, their problem would be solved with less food intake, more exercise. Maybe easy for me to say, but that's my opinion.
Voted : not necessarily. some people are obese for legitimate health reasons
some are just lazy and eat too much and some have health reasons i guess. but that doc should have more tact.
I find it interesting about the obesity issue -- consider the opposite, 1 in 10 girls in Canada under the age of 10 is already on a diet. Hey larry, this guy sounds like the same doc you encountered, remember? the doc who was making fun of the poor guy who came in with chest pains? Anyway, this guy should have more tact. Some people could have a thyrioid or a hormone problem. My friend Sonia is married, and she's been battling her weight her entire life. Because of her hormonal problem, she can't lose weight no matter what she does, exercise, eat properly. She's been eating little more than cottage cheese for lunch, goes to the gym everyday, and still can't lose weight. Now, she's goign in for gastric surgery, even though i really don't think she's that big. I wonder about people like Mr. Wonderful up here, people who say things so tactlessly, do they have some kind of inferiority complex that they have to put someone else down to make themselves feel better?

Cease and desist all fat american references, unless it's done in a tactful way and with all factors taken under consideration.
^ yeah, especially considering this fact -- Almost one in four adults and a quarter of 11 to 15-year-olds in Britain are obese
In America, we fatties make up 60% of the population. A minority? I think not! In some of them, it's a thyroid or hormone problem, but the vast majority just like to eat, drink, etc. It's their lifestyle choice, and they're happy with it. Bashing them isn't going to make them change.
Another thing I don't understand is why so many people think that obese people are in denial about it. Fat people KNOW that they're fat, believe me.

The head of any medical association who makes statements such as that is not qualified to be in that position...while I've never had a problem with obesity, after observing and reading about it makes it clear some people are simply addicted to food and to suggest they can simply stop or are just greedy is the kind of analysis you would expect from an uneducated person who doesn't have the problem...I don't know any overweight people who want to be that way, whether it be a genetic cause or overeating, there's something going on there that's more than just greed...
Voted : yes, fat people are fat cuz they eat too much
Yes, and it's about time somebody said it. IMO, the overwhelming majority of fat people are probably fat because they're bone idle & they eat far too much, especially junk food.
