COMMENTS:
They are probably Anglophiles
Voted : They're out of touch with their culture
Some people like to be unique and different.
Voted : They're Smart
Usually well-educated, and they've more awareness of etymological accuracy than that linguistic anal rapist Noah Webster.

how is it pretentious though? that's the same thing as saying the british are pretentious. they're just writing it as they always have and if an american follows suit, well, copying the "english" way of speaking and writing english makes sense to me.
1:10. both. you owe me a coke rama.
Voted : I never give it any thought
I never give it any mind. I read so much from so many places, I find myself spelling words sometimes in the English manner. Some of it's still used in parts of the deep south though. It's not uncommon at all to see theatre, plough, dialogue, jewellery, etc... Calling people pretentious over it really sounds a little pretentious itself.
Because of this site and chatrooms, I have spelled words with a "U" I even received a notation across a paper I did in school last year, "You are not in England" I didn’t even realize I was doing it.

I also don't like the way some snobby Americans are adopting the European affectation of writing dates and phone numbers like this: 555.7840 or 12.02.12007. It looks so phony, and it IS.
lol, i only recently learned that Americans dont spell the same way, on microsoft word it really confused me

I'd think, yeah, an American who can actually spell properly.
Voted : I never give it any thought
Cathexis used to do that and I wouldn't consider him pretensious and what grumpy said.
Voted : I never give it any thought
I DO let important things worry me though.. not enough room in my head for hatin' on the little stuff.

Dosen't apply to you aya, because you are Canadian, rama is implying , for an American to be smart is the exception not the rule.
^ No I'm not. I'm castigating that nationalistic tosser Webster for dicking about with a perfectly-serviceable language, based on little more than his own personal preferences and with little regard for consistency (e.g. it's normal for Americans to spell "glamour" with the u).
^ sorry I assumed that
