Okay, it's not exactly a religion, because it doesn't teach any moral code or such. Why do stories about Bigfoot, Nessie (loch Ness), ghost stories, etc get started? Maybe the originators were just having a bit of fun, and the listeners just took it all too seriously? Maybe we've done that with a lot of stories we've heard. Who knows? But I never discount the power of belief, even if I don't believe in a thing. Sometimes beliefs can get you killed. Sometimes they can save you from the same fate. And, sometimes, they are better to keep to yourself, least someone whok you up the side of the head with them.

Native America, to keep kids from wandering into the woods.
It started when Native Americans first saw the hairy Vikings
They are ghosts from the past, and I'm a believer.
They are a real and present, although elusive, creature.
This is the most ridiculous thing I ever heard.

Native traditions. They used to warn their children about staying out in the dark because of such creatures. Two Native men interviewed on tv thought it was just legends until they came across such creatures.
