DO SOME OF YOU REALIZE YOU DO THIS?

[+] ballot by larrynelmira
ACTIVE Tue Aug 07, 07 - Wed Aug 06, 08

If I made a ballot, and this is just an example, does not in any way represent my views.

If I made a ballot saying President Reagan once said the sun is hot, many of you would not say yes, he is correct, instead you would go into attack mode, listing every negative thing Reagan has ever done and not even comment on the sun being hot

I make the same ballot saying President Carter said the sun is hot, it would be for he’s a jolly good fellow , what a wise man, Oh My God , he is correct , the sun is so hot.

And visa versa

Do you realize you do this and do you have any idea how annoying that is to the ballot maker?

I reallize I do this and I could give a f**k if the ballot maker is annoyed
I realize I do this, but can't help myself
I don't realize I do this

Too often, people assume incorrectly.

Because someone asks a question (or makes a ballot) does not mean that their position is one way or the other.

Really good ballot, larrynelmira. 5+5
by Black_Lava on Tue Aug 07, 07 10:34am [+]

^That’s true and I think that stops SOME people myself included from making ballots on certain issues.

^That's true that people assume, your first comment that was for

Let me say this... if Jimmy Carter said the sun was hot I would agree with him. I think there are three issues here. One is what you mention. People automatically going into bash mode because a certain politician said something. Another would be when people attack the ballot maker or automatically disagree with the point they are making only because of who the ballot maker is. This was most evident with herzog's ballots. People would vote for the most ridiculous choices just because he made the ballot. If he said the sun was hot some users (example: user whose alias begins with "c" and ends with "y") would disagree. The third problem is with users who are so obsessed about certain things (like Bush) that they bring this into practically every ballot (see above) even when the ballot has nothing to do with that person. The last 2 are a bit more disturbing than the first and much more annoying.

Just for the record? IMO when Ronald Reagan took a dump, it smelled like a field of wildflowers and a basket of freesia all rolled up into one.

The sun is hot, the earth is round, the sky is blue and President Bush is a moron.

Oops. I just did it, I think.

I realize I do this; I'm pretty good about refraining; but, sometimes I can't help myself. It depends if I detect a hidden agenda. I never see "hidden agendas" in your ballots, larry.

Kev pointed this out to me recently, that I do tend to tangent ff on ballots if I see the tangent. I can't always help myself. It's the curse of having a mind that prefers to look at every angle as opposed to one vector alone.

My main beef is with people who don't even bother answering the ballot question, wouldn't be so bad if they answer the question and if they just can't resist, then say what they think about person, place or thing.
by larrynelmira on Tue Aug 07, 07 2:20pm [+]

the beef is when people can't help but drag the same old tired train of thought into everything. case in point, a ballot about lets say china and a newsworthy piece being discussed and without fail, some dolt has to bome blaring on the ballot and totally distract by saying something stupid like "oh yeah, well what about america and blah, blah, blah f'ng blah."

fine! what about america? make a ballot on it. this one's about china and a news story directly relevant to china.

i call them diversionaries. no matter what the topic they manage to throw out their usual bull on the same old issue -- it's cuz they're mentally ill in my opinion.

larry lays out a good example with regan. let's be honest, the man was far from being satan, yet one single good thing about him is pointed out, and out of the woodwork come the diversionaries to babble on about how he did this wrong and that wrong. once again, cool -- just make your own damn ballot about those things you think he did wrong.

as for you truth, fine, look at every angle, just make your own ballot on that bizaro tangent you see

I didn't think I did this because I see how it looks when others do it. It's rude and it's just not good debate ethics.

Fiddle's right though. It's annoying also. And sometimes pretty damn disturbing, depending on the level of obsessiveness exhibited.

Kinda makes me wonder what the basement or bedroom walls of people who do this look like.
