COMMENTS:
Needless to say that, (it should be obvious) Spanish and English have a lot more in common with each other than either of them do with indigenous languages, which are interrelated.
For some reason (maybe I inadvertently checked the wrong box) comments were not allowed on ballot #116833. The two ballot questions are related. If you will, go there, then come back to comment here. I have to go to work. I'll come back later and read your comments.

Probably because the only language which matters, in the eyes of those in power, *is* the language spoken by those in power. Granted, there is a need for a uniform standard of communication in life, else we have the Tower of Babel 2007. But we also can't afford to lose languages through ignorance and disuse. I once read somewhere that we lose many languages yearly this way.

I don't speak the same language as my great grandparents did. I could not care less if an indigenous dialect goes the way of Cornish, Mohica or Wappo. They are welcome to come join in our reindeer games.

It would be a lot of work to learn that many languages.
