Several houses on Anita's section of Grove Street banded together for a big rummage sale early Saturday morning, Anita started hauling things out into the yard. Her husband was still asleep. Among the items she put up for sale was a big, brown, ceramic turtle. A woman came by the sale and was instantly interested in the big turtle. "I saw her trying to work the top off of it," Anita said. "I told her, 'I don't know why it's sealed.'" The woman said she wanted the turtle to use as a cookie jar. "She said, 'Well, maybe I can get it off,' and she took it," Anita said. She paid 50 cents for it. Later, Terrence noticed the turtle was gone. He asked Anita where it was, and she told him she sold it. "NO!" Terrence cried. "Her ashes are in there." "You're kidding," Anita said. The look on his face, though, was proof enough it was no joke. Anita said she remembered Terrence, her husband of 11 years, told her long ago the ashes were in a turtle, but she thought it was another one in the house.
