Mom used to call us "ragamuffins." Dad used to call breakfast "brezduhvuhduhgusss", to the morning he preferred the word "gloaming," eggs were "eggalinas," a skunk was a "polecat" or a "Poland Cat," and there are several other "dadisms" which I remember fondly. I have nothing else with which to associate them. I've heard no one else call these things this. Did he invent these things, or have you heard someone else speak in a similar fashion? Gosh, I miss my dad. This month he's been gone for 15 years.

I have known people who seem to invent words.
I invent words.
These sayings were unique to your father.
Your dad heard someone else call things by these names, because I've heard them, too.

COMMENTS:
'ragamuffins' was an old British term for a street urchin, scruffy kid etc. 'Gloaming'is the time of day just after sunset, I think it came from Scotland.. Roamin' in the gloamin'. Never heard the rest before.

Polecat is a euphemism for a skunk. That and ragamuffin were real words. Gloaming sounds like a Lewis Caroll word. The rest must have been made up.

That would be the Insane Sister. Her verbal conjury is nigh magical.

Some of these made-up words have subliminabubble messages.
