I woke up earlier than usual this morning, and so was able to see the last hour of a movie on TCM, "This Land Is Mine". In the very last scene, Charles Laughton's character rreads to his class from "Declaration of the Rights of Man" which, if memory serves, was written by Rousseau. It's considered to be one of the models the Founding Fathers Drew upon when writing the Bill of Rights. (Self-correction- Rousseau translated it into the French from Thomas Hobbes' social contract theory.)

Greece. That is a fact, not a point to be argued upon.
Thoughts are like water. They all run together and into the same place. They are recycled. Because of this, winston raises a very salient point. The earliest western thinkers are the foundation upon which all subsequent thought is built. Therefore, GREECE would be my choice. Not much has come out of Greece lately, however. The Germans seem to have taken it and run with it the most. Within intellectual thought there are various categories. Political philosophy, Social philosophy, Economic philosophy, etc... all related, but separate. Like water, they become polluted by excrement. Hitler's Mein Kampf is an excellent example of philosophy gone awry. Each country has it's intellectuals, the hardest part is distancing oneself from one's emotions in such matters. But, in times of great upheaval, intellectuals end up getting the bad end of the stick. I give you a symbol from Eastern thought, developed as an icon by a friend of mine.

Einstein was from Germany, as were Planck and Heisenburg.
^ von Braun as well, and he's considered the Father of Rocketry. Still sticking with the French.
