Sure. There seems to be no other way to stop the vote-spamming.
HELLLL NO, but i'd send you a Crimmus card! And visit you when we move out to AZ, or we can meet at the river :) Seiously, my husband won't even let me put pictures of the kids online, because anybody could be HIM: Well the post card thing i would do, or a verification in some form but it would have to be a signature or something but no ID or card info except through paypal transaction and if need be i would pay a couple of bucks just to be here because this site is great! Making people pay a small charge might be a good idea because half those fuckers that are spamming don't have a job anyway!

why would you need all that just to ensure accurate voting? i don't see why you'd need all that. just change the system so that you can only vote once. that seems a whole lot easier to me. while i'd do what you ask, it just seems like way more work.

As long as those I didn't want to know didn't find out, nothing to hide.
Voted : no, I wouldn't be comfortable.
Not on your life. Leave serious polling to organizations like Gallup. Frankly, you don't have the expertise to do what they do. Major news organizations, thousands of blogs all have polls/ballots and many of them allow comments. In some cases the users can create ballots. Its all about freedom of speech (although moderated like here). A more profitable thing for you to do is use your expertise with creating this website and work with blog sites. Allowing them to create ballots here would benefit them and you. BTW, they don't take their polls all that seriously and many or most of those sites are more serious than this one. Dude, its entertainment, not science this site should offer. There's a real easy way to stop vote spamming. If the user wants to stop it give them the choice to close their own ballot (like superusers have).
" Leave serious polling to organizations like Gallup" make me.

^ love that reply. classic.
lcd check out the ballot on the israeli wall. perfect example. dude, just forbid guest voting. that will help dramatically.
It's kinda pointless really. Even if people registered. For example, I could vote, as a guest, yes/no 25 times on one ballot in 5 minutes using proxies. (not that I'd be arsed doing that) But there's nothing you could do to stop it. Unless you're going to stop guest voting, then you're only going to get a dozen or so votes on each ballot.
You might not get many votes that way.
guests shmests. who cares. fix the registration option so they can join. then limit it to 1 vote per registered user on every ballot. or, screw it and don't worry about it. or do what i now do under advisement and only let a ballot stay open for a set period of time. or, shoot the bastards.
All you need to is go to these ballots to see that a nefarious alias is quick to point the finger at others when she herslef usses her multiple alias names to get the results she wants. How much more evidence do people need to see that she is a liar. ballot #101303 ballot #106619

"fix the registration option so they can join. then limit it to 1 vote per registered user on every ballot. by Kev24 on Wed Aug 22, 07 3:45pm" This I totally agree with. One vote per IP address, one vote per registered user - and nothing more. No more of the 24 hours per vote because anyone with a dynamic IP adress can keep spamming forever at hundreds of votes per day, every day. At least they'd eventually run out of IP adresses to use.
LCD, that is a very good idea about the serious surveys, but the problem is that it's unlikely to get enough people to make a decent sized survey of relevance. You need much larger numbers. I have no problem with registering with real information.

Hopefully safeguards would be in place to prevent this info from falling into the wrong hands...
Voted : Yes, I would identify myself
Sure. I can do the postcard or a copy of my ID. I don't have any money items so not gonna happen lol.
Voted : no, I wouldn't be comfortable.
Who is this? What's your operating number?
Voted : no, I wouldn't be comfortable.
I wouldnt trust the system enough. Somebody might hack the records and steal identity information. We hear about that all the time.
