Well, you will probably meet me in AZ, because we'll be moving out there, and my hubby wouldn't mind meeting people places and he's really nice...to most people. So you'd know that i am me. As for finding out other people...tough call...
Who cares really? As long as the person isn't using the alias to spam the site with things like neo-Nazi crud like some users/aliases do, it shouldn't matter. Phone numbers wouldn't work, people change them all the time. People need to lighten up a bit on the rules. Are you going to have to provide your SS number the next time?

Each computer has a distinctive IP addy, so tie that IP to a username in a way that would block it from acquiring another username.

can't you just tell by looking at the ip? if the answer is no careful not to reveal any trade secrets.
tincan also makes a point. who cares as long as its not to abuse. i doubt you can really rid aliases anyway.
verification of IP's don't work, I do that already and there are some obsessed people using proxies.

pfft. lcd already has enough of my sperm. he makes me milk out a load and mail it to him in a tupperware container. i think he sells it to the fertility clinic. quite the entrepreneur our lcd.

This I totally agree with. One vote per IP address, one vote per registered user - and nothing more. No more of the 24 hours per vote because anyone with a dynamic IP adress can keep spamming forever at hundreds of votes per day, every day. At least they'd eventually run out of IP adresses to use.
LCD, that is a very good idea about the serious surveys, but the problem is that it's unlikely to get enough people to make a decent sized survey of relevance. You need much larger numbers.
I have no problem with registering with real information.
Btw, someone it appears that someone so dislikes my replies that they like to delete them. Even those above.

Ok here's some ways.
1You could send a text message to their cellphone and they have to tell you in Private messages what password you sent them. Don't reuse codes either ever.
2You get a P.O Box and have every user send a card with their username on it and a code you give them through their E-mail or private messages. Again no repeat codes.
Also if you could maybe make a system which shows who is and who is'nt verified.
I will try to think of more.

I'm afraid that no-one is going to give phone no.s, addresses, send cards, letters or sperm to visit a website. C'mon you must know that. I wouldn't.

^ I never said people would not be allowed on here. That's why you have verified and unverified users. That way anyone can get on but you get a better idea of who is real.
And belive it or not but a lot of sites already have systems that verify people and mark you as verified or unverified.

Ok i just remembered this...and it worked. I had a message board that was a love, sex and relationship board, and it had tons of regular members....and i just deleted the assholes that would come in! Make votes for people to vote on who needs to go and delete their accounts! Boot them if you think they are using a ton of different aliases...that works.
