When President Clinton involved us in the conflict between the Serbs and the Croatians, I remember one advisor or commentator (I can't remember who it was off the top of my head) noted that the beginning of the century involved a conflict in the same area which evolved into WW's I and II; and, the same commentator implored of that President that he employ caution and not let history repeat itself. Although it possesses distinct differences from the conflict in the beginning of the previous millenium, there are also some similarities. A lot involved the clashes between the cultures of "the east" and "the west." Then, a contributing factor was the Islamic cultural encroachment in Spain. Remember, Turkey was allied with Wilhelm in WWI. It was an assassination of one of theirs which is commonly viewed as a major contributing factor. So, whether we want to admit it or not, are the "jihadists" getting what they were posturing for via President Bush's policies toward them? Do you think their talking smack about him is really all just propaganda, and that he is actually playing into their hand, giving them what they wanted in this global poker game? I'm not discounting the proposition that he's an idiot, I think he probably is. I don't think "the boy" (Bush II) has a friggin' clue what he's dealing with here.
So, is the history of conflict between the east and the west repeating itself, or not?

Yep. It's repeating itself.
Nope. This is altogether different.

COMMENTS:
You know what? This is the first time I've ever written a ballot on which I would be interested in opening a dialogue with men/women who identify themselves as the persons whom our media has labeled "Islamo-fascists." It's good to effectively and respectfully communicate with your enemy; I would propose that it's really the only way to resolve a conflict. So, while I wouldn't necessarily pursue sitting and eating or drinking with them (see ballots ballot #117348 & ballot #117349) I also wouldn't be averse to that, if the opportunity availed itself. (If any CIA type monitors these ballots, there is no question about how I am politically disposed in this matter, and you can read my other ballots to ascertain the truth of that statement) I'm a red-blooded American boy, true enough; but, in my heart I would truly like to talk with one of those in that radical element of Islam. I've begun reading their Book, and you know what? It makes a lot of sense to me--Great Book! But,so far, I just don't see how it justifies this business any more than "my" Book does. And, America isn't even a Christian nation, as I am of the impression that many of them believe. My father used to say, "he that will not provide for and defend his own is WORSE than an infidel" and I never knew exactly what that meant by or exactly where he heard that saying. I find it hard to believe that it was an original thought on his part. I'm sure somebody else said it before him.

Voted : Nope. This is altogether different.
IMO, the initial conflict of East Vs West was the Crusades, and it set the table for the cycle to spin ever onward. And since, all too often, dialogue on issues is thrown out the window in the face of impending war, the cycle will just continue to spin.

Again, I bring in the MSN group I post with. (Well, haven't posted there in a few weeks, because of time constraints, personal issues, friends in need and the simple fact that the Bush conservatives over there are simply unwilling to hear any words other than their own, I don't really feel the urge to spit into the wind.) As I said, they aren't willing to talk. They just want to wipe out the other side. It's stupid.
