break up?

Yahoo professor chats, I don’t know if any of you are familiar, it’s suppose to be professors and teachers from around the globe , but needless to say I’m not a professor or a teacher and I was chatting, so sure many others are not as well.

I was surprised that this is a popular belief of many in that chatroom.

I asked if they mean like the breakup of the republics in the former Soviet Union and they say yes, in a way.

I can’t compare the states with the former Soviet Republics, totally different to me, but of course most in the chatroom didn’t agree.

What you think, is it possible and do you believe it to be in fact America’s fate , fifty independent nations, if that did happen, how would it affect the world as we know it now?

Wouldn’t affect the world
Would affect the world in ways I’ll explain below
won't happen any time soon

i'm a little confused. so people on this chat believed it would happen? why? there's absolutely nothing even remotely close to fact on that topic. seems kind of weird that a bunch of pundits were discussing something like that when there's nothing close to reality on the issue. my answer is no, i don't think we'll see that anytime soon.

lar, opinions are like assholes. everyone's got one lol sounds to me like they have too much time on their hands and are just talking nonsense.

^ they compare USA with former Soviet Union, I think that is where their thinking goes wrong, most said this will happen within this century. They look at empires past and how they eventually broke up,ended, that is always brought into the conversation.

IMO they just don't understand the structure of our government.

^and refuse to try to understand

^ that's usually an indicator that they're bitter or enraged. it's like wishful thinking on their part. least that's been my experience with people who refuse to deal in reality. maybe it will happen at some point. who knows. doubtful it would be anytime soon.

I agree with Kev24. It may happen in the distant future, but their are no signs that I can see that suggest it will happen anytime soon.

If one rogue state tries to break free, what will be the political and economic consequences? Your country wouldn't let it happen. If a state wished to emancipate itself then it would need political support from other states, not to mention massive economic resources. The only way I can see that happening is if several states tried to break free together. The soviet union broke apart after roughly 50 years of unity. The U.S.A has something like 230 years of history and success behind it. Not to mention that America is a much, much better place to live than eastern Europe, your countries problems are much smaller than most countries.

Don't put to much thought onto what is said about America on the internet Larry, most of the world do not like your country and would love to see it fail.

LOL @ NoxiousSpore

Seriously, they're professors in a chat room. What do you expect.
by Grumpy_Person on Mon Aug 27, 07 10:09am [+]

Many claim to be professors, I don't take what they say as fact, just find their conversations interesting in an academic sort of way

There is no credible chance this will happen. That problem was solved in 1865.
