SHOULD BENCHMARKS IN IRAQ BE MEASURED BY COSTS ?

Benchmarks are a fact of life...starting in school, there are necessary standards that must be met in order to progress (or should be)...in the work force, they are requirements that must be satisfied or job security may be compromised...financial targets are always a factor and measurements are constantly taken to insure they are realized....now we have war(s) which seems to be open ended and with no accountability on how many lives it takes or how much it will cost to achieve what in many minds is an unrealistic goal...and the very people who will ultimately pay for these endeavors are not being heeded by the leaders...the justification for embarking on such lofty ventures especially having morphed from searches for dangerous weapons to Nation building consisting of historically opposing factions would seem to beg for benchmarks to determine if it's worth the expenditures in human life and resources (IMO)... do you feel costs should play a role in whether to continue to finance a war if benchmarks are not being met ?

No, costs should not be a factor if benchmarks are not being met
Yes, if benchmarks are not met, maybe it time to "stand down"
There's no way out at this point in time
"we must fight them over there"...

You can't place dollar signs on human life. And no, there's also no immediate way out of this morass. And, if intel is right, and the Surge is into Iran, mark us down for the next fifteen years in the Middle East. Wish I had K&A to give on this one.

One always needs to count the cost.
