COMMENTS:
Voted : 1600 X 1200 pixels.
I use this on a 20" flat screen.

Anything higher hurts my eyes.

Voted : 1024 X 768 pixels.
This is what I've always used, on every computer I've used.

This is clearly a question for ignorant people.

The best resolution is the highest that supports the highest refresh rate (or at least 60 Hz for LCD screens or 85 Hz for CRT).

If a high resolution makes things too small to read or look at then you need to know how to make them bigger for your given resolution. If that's not possible (it probably is) then the fault is with the Operating System.

Going back to the original question, it is somewhat analogous to....

'How well do you want to be able to see?

a. not very well
b. quite well
c. very well

Anyone who chooses a or b either has a master plan or has chosen the wrong option.

I've always liked 800 by 600.

my laptop has (had) UXGA, which is 1600x1200.

everybody hates it when they use it because the characters are too small. I love it.

My iBook's max is 1024x768, which is what i have used most of my life. A little higher would be nice though...
